Paying for a course is easy. Choosing the right one isn't.
Every week we meet students and working professionals who spent serious money on an IT course that didn't move their career an inch. Almost never because the technology was wrong — .NET, Java, cloud, and data skills are all in demand. It's because the institute was wrong for them.
Whether you join us or anyone else, here are the seven questions we believe every learner should ask before paying a single rupee.
1. Who actually teaches — and can I meet them first?
Brochures show star trainers; batches sometimes get someone else. Ask for the name of the trainer for your batch, their real industry experience, and a demo session. A good institute will happily arrange it. If they hesitate, that tells you something.
2. Is the syllabus current, or five years old?
Ask to see the module list in writing. For a .NET course, look for the modern stack — not legacy frameworks from a decade ago. For Java, ask which version and which frameworks. If the syllabus can't be shown in writing, assume it doesn't exist.
3. How much of the course is actually hands-on?
Watching someone code teaches you very little. Ask what percentage of class time is spent building things, whether there's a capstone project, and whether your code gets reviewed. "You'll build a real project" should come with specifics: what project, reviewed by whom, deployed where.
4. What does "placement support" really mean?
This is where most disappointment lives. "100% placement" usually means "we forward your resume." Ask instead: how many learners from the last three batches got jobs, at which companies, and can you speak to one of them? Honest institutes share real numbers, including the unflattering ones.
5. What happens if I fall behind?
Life happens — a work deadline, an illness, a slow week. Ask whether you can attend the same module in a later batch, whether sessions are recorded, and whether someone answers doubts between classes. The answer separates institutes that teach from institutes that merely conduct sessions.
6. Can I see reviews I can verify?
Screenshots on a brochure are not reviews. Look for reviews attached to real, verifiable learners — on the institute's public page, on Google, or by asking to speak with alumni directly. One honest conversation with a past learner is worth fifty testimonials.
7. What exactly am I paying for — in writing?
Total fee, what it includes, the refund policy, and the batch start date — on paper or in an email, before you pay. A booking amount is normal; vagueness about the rest is not. If the numbers only exist verbally, walk away.
The pattern behind all seven questions
Notice that none of these are about marketing, brand size, or how impressive the office looks. They're about transparency. Institutes that answer these questions openly tend to teach well too, because both come from the same place: respect for the learner.
